Aviation has been an important part of the Wyoming Army National Guard since 1948 when we started flying with one L-5 Cessna.
Today, we fly state-of-the-art UH-60A Blackhawk helicopters and a twin-engine Beechcraft C-12 aircraft.
Our aviation personnel have flown around the world while performing a variety of missions, including medical evacuation, humanitarian aid, homeland security, and search and rescue in Wyoming and the region.
In the summer of 2001, we received funding from the state legislature to purchase fire-fighting equipment.
Previously we could only support fire fighters by providing medical evacuation support or transporting people and equipment. Now we can fight the fires from the air.
Our full-time staff of 31 also coordinates with military units around the country to provide aviation support if local resources are unavailable.
